I love Olive Juice ! The designs are classic and fun. The clothes wears and washes well. The only issue is will Darrow wear these beautiful dresses ?
Darrow and her cousin Ruby wore matching Wati dresses to the Harwich Children's Theatre tonight. My mother in law takes the kids to a show every year while we are on the Cape. A great tradition.
I have fallen back in love with J. Crew. ( I wrote about it on my other blog.) Their fall designs are wonderful.
Check out their kids line, Crew Cuts. I am hoping that Darrow will do some back to school shopping at J.Crew. I wonder if she would wear this great dress for the first day of school ...
Darrow has been busy making lanyard creations. She learned many new stitches at Castilleja camp. Lanyard has been a big part of her summer...she even made a lanyard out of her shoe string licorice. My friend just showed me this great poem about lanyard--read it ! You will never look at a strand of lanyard the same way again.
Darrow, Beckett and I have had quite a nice weekend.Sometimes it is nice to spend time with half of your family. They did not fight at all, and played together all weekend. We spent most of the day at the beach today. They built sand villages, sand cakes, and buried one another. We had dinner out, with a quick trip to the candy store. It really is amazing how much easier two kids are to manage than four !
David is in the Berkshires at a wedding with Julian and Noah. I have stayed behind on the Cape with Darrow and Beckett. I have to admit, I am a bit worried about being alone on vacation with these two. However, today was a lot of fun.
We started the day at the Eldredge public library story hour. The library is beautiful, and the story hour was filled with songs, games and crafts in addition to stories about boats. I now have a Chatham library card as a summer resident.
Next stop was The Anytime Cafe for lunch. They had a vegan soup, and healthy food, what a treat.
The kids insisted that we get candy after lunch. So it was off to Candy Manor. I even let them eat it.
Darrow and Beckett passed Crocs on the porch of The Children's Shop. Crocs mean jibbitz. So we had to go in. We found a Paul Frank lunch box and back pack for Beckett, and of course jibbitz.
The weather warmed up, so we spent a few hours in the late afternoon at the beach. Now we are relaxing in a much quieter than usual house. We have library books to read, and organic pizza to cook. I am looking forward to a calm night at home. I wonder what we will do tomorrow...hope it is a beach day !
I visited the Marimekko boutique in Cambridge. Great selection of housewares, womens and childrens items from this unique Finnish designer. I bought Darrow this fun shirt, they had them in my size as well. Do not think I would look too good in polka dots, but there were many other choices as well.
This is the cute skirt that she is wearing. Simple, fun, and not too short. If you are in Paris, stop by this shop. There are many throughout the city.
I bought my daughter a pair of these lovely clogs. Darrow begged for years for a pair of clogs. (She has also been begging me to let her get her ears pierced, I chose clogs. ) We went to a few shops, where clogs were quite pricey. I refuse to pay almost 100 dollars for kids clogs. Though she did seem able to walk in the clogs in the shop, I could not break down and pay that much dinero for her little feet. So, I found a cute pair of clogs on one of my favorite kids sites. When Darrow was younger, I would dress her in the striped Hanna play dresses. She looked so cute. Oh, how I long for the days that I could pick out her clothes, and dress her in Swedish cotton. I had to have two boys before I could have the pleasure of ordering those dresses. Now she will not wear a thing from Hanna, or let me have any say in what she wears. (I think she takes her fashion cues from Hillary Duff.) So, I was thrilled to be able to order from Hanna again. She was thrilled to get her clogs. I was thrilled to only pay twenty eight dollars. But-- she can not walk in them. The clogs are now weekend and after school shoes. The clogs adorn her feet all weekend, and she trips and falls all weekend. Just this evening her clogs fell down the stairs , off her feet at the dinner table, and caused her to run behind us all, stumbling along the sidewalk. The crazy thing is that she endures all of the pain, just to wear these shoes. Its as if females are preconditioned to accept pain for the sake of fashion at an early age. At one point she had the clogs on the wrong feet, yet continued to walk- guess it felt the same as on the right feet. Who knows what brilliant parenting decision I will make next. Perhaps pierced ears would have been a safer choice.
