While on the beach yesterday, Beckett said, "Every day is a family day on vacation. " Beckett calls weekends family days. Vacation is like on big weekend . Kids seem to just enjoy being together, no matter what they are doing. That is one of the main reasons we spend so much time just relaxing on the Cape.
Darrow, Beckett and I have had quite a nice weekend.Sometimes it is nice to spend time with half of your family. They did not fight at all, and played together all weekend. We spent most of the day at the beach today. They built sand villages, sand cakes, and buried one another. We had dinner out, with a quick trip to the candy store. It really is amazing how much easier two kids are to manage than four !
David is in the Berkshires at a wedding with Julian and Noah. I have stayed behind on the Cape with Darrow and Beckett. I have to admit, I am a bit worried about being alone on vacation with these two. However, today was a lot of fun.
We started the day at the Eldredge public library story hour. The library is beautiful, and the story hour was filled with songs, games and crafts in addition to stories about boats. I now have a Chatham library card as a summer resident.
Next stop was The Anytime Cafe for lunch. They had a vegan soup, and healthy food, what a treat.
The kids insisted that we get candy after lunch. So it was off to Candy Manor. I even let them eat it.
Darrow and Beckett passed Crocs on the porch of The Children's Shop. Crocs mean jibbitz. So we had to go in. We found a Paul Frank lunch box and back pack for Beckett, and of course jibbitz.
The weather warmed up, so we spent a few hours in the late afternoon at the beach. Now we are relaxing in a much quieter than usual house. We have library books to read, and organic pizza to cook. I am looking forward to a calm night at home. I wonder what we will do tomorrow...hope it is a beach day !
We have had a few rainy days here on the Cape. This was just a perfect excuse for Beck to sport his new Black Dog raincoat. I know that Black Dog is touristy, but it is well made and very cute on the kids. The designs are classic, and the Black Dog never goes out of style.
I am hoping to make it to the Karol Richardson shop in Wellfleet today. It is another rainy day on the Cape, a great time to check out local designers. Karol carries her exclusive designs, as well as some others that compliment her line.
It is a rainy cold day in Cape Cod. We tried to take the kids to the beach for a walk, but ran back to the car when we heard thunder. On the way back from Nauset Beach, we passed one of my favorite shops on the Cape, Weekend.
Weekend is a unique, upscale boutique. No nautical themed t-shirts to be found ! I felt like I was in a city, not in the beach town of Orleans, Ma. Weekend carries collections like Tea Collection for kids, Orla Kiley bags, Lucky Fish tops for kids and women, dresses by Tree, and many others that I had never heard of. Saja is one designer that I will be looking for. (I plan to return to try on a dress. ) The unique array of home items, jewelry, clothes and accessories makes Weekend worth the drive to a beach on a rain soaked day.
A good friend just sent me this video. It made her think of me. Granted I always wanted to be a w.a.s.p, but my blood is not blue, no relatives on the Mayflower, and I am allergic to lobster. I do love Cape Cod, but you will never see me in embroidered whale shorts or Lilly Pulitzer.
